Cadets from Ipswich, Felixstowe and Woodbridge Squadrons of the Air Cadet organisation all joined together to venture in to the hills of Wales in Brecon and the surrounding area. All in all 21 cadets had the opportunity to go hill walking in some of the picturesque hills and valleys in the UK. They all set off on Thursday 29 May 2008 from the TA Centre in Ipswich for the 6 hour journey to their accommodation at the Brecon Centre, which is own and operated by the RAF.

The walking was split up in to 2 days and 2 groups. Peter Watson-Brown, a civilian instructor from 432 (Woodbridge) Squadron and a qualified mountain leader planned the routes so that the cadets got the most out of the 2 walks. There where plenty of hills and valleys to navigate and some of the views were truly magnificent. All the cadets had the opportunity to practice their navigation skills with a good old map and compass as well as to learn the limitations when it comes to hill walking and the various terrains that they encountered. Although there was a few drops of rain at times the main bulk of the journey was dry and sunny and the cadets and staff that accompanied them all throughly enjoyed themselves in what has become a Squadron annual event.

We would also like to mention that if not for the help and support from local Ford dealership John Grose, the event would have either had to be cut back in the form of the number of cadets taken or the overall cost would have increased dramatically. John Grose where able to prevent this by providing us with a Ford Transit Van free of charge to transport all the equipment, personal belongings and food required. The 3 Squadrons involved would like to extend a big thank you to John Grose for once again helping the Squadrons and the cadets explore what life is all about.
