Marksmanship
Shooting is taught at the squadron as a personal discipline. You start with classroom instruction and progress onto the 0.22 Mark 8 rifle where all commands are issued by the controlling Range Officer.
From this basic proficiency level you can advance to the L98, a weapon similar to the standard army SA80 weapon but modified for single shot use. Normally you will fire outdoors on a 25-metre range but can also shoot on long ranges or in simulators.

Many of our cadets at the squadron have been shooting with the various rifles we have at our disposal. At these shooting events we will train them in the breathing and control of the weapon to become a great marksman. Many of our cadets have qualified as Squadron Marksman and now have the opportunity to gain the Wing, Region and Corps Marksman.
As well as training sessions we also take part in various competitions against other squadrons in the corps and other military cadets units.

The pinnacle of a cadets’ shooting activity is to represent the Air Cadet Organisation at Bisley, a national competition involving some of the best shots in the country. In this competition you control your own firing with minimal assistance from adult staff.
